The Whole SEO Turkey.

SEO Services

If most of your SEO knowledge comes from an old blog post in comic sans about how “keywords make the dream work,” then you’ll be surprised to know that there is much more to Search Engine Optimization than just keyword stuffing.

That’s not to say they’re not important. Just as the stuffing is an important part of the Christmas turkey, using the right keywords is important in getting your web page considered for the search engine results, but if you’re looking to get to the VIP table that is page 1, you’re gonna need to up your SEO Game.

The Elements of good SEO

The full list of factors considered in search engine algorithms is most likely a well-guarded trade secret. However, that’s not to say we don’t have our own recipes for getting higher rankings in search results. Namely:

  • Reliable, quality content
  • Backlinks
  • Images
  • Mobile Friendliness

Search engines need their rankings to be synonymous with trustworthiness, so they work extra hard to add as many hurdles as possible to make it impossible for bots and poorly designed sites to get anywhere near the first page. Here’s how to jump over those hurdles:

Reliable, quality content

If your cooking blog has an entire section dedicated to celebrity gossip, politics, or other inflammatory content, chances are you’re fishing for clicks and trying to get your traffic up, and that just won’t cut it.

Having useful, relevant content in your blog adds some spice and is essential to generating engagement. How much time people spend on your site and whether or not they interact with your content, such as likes and comments, helps drive your reliability and look good on the SEO Checklist.

Backlinks

Backlinks to good, reputable sites are to websites what citations are to a high school essay. At the very least, it proves that you’ve done your research and know where to find information that can back you up.

However, backlinks have an expiration date, so be sure to check your backlinks regularly. A broken backlink or one that leads to a toxic, virus-ridden website can be very bad for you and your guests.

Images

They say an image is worth a thousand words, but in a blog, they’re worth much more than that. Images can bring a text to life, make it more attractive to the audience, and provide a break from reading. Extra points if they are homemade.

That’s not to say you can just sprinkle images and videos on your blog, and you’re good to go. If you’ve got a random picture of a guy holding a gun in your DIY blog, it might be funny, but it won’t add anything more to the text, and you will likely lose engagement because of it.

Mobile Friendliness

This one’s a no-brainer. There’s a good chance you’re reading this on your phone right now. More and more people are using mobile devices for their day-to-day searches, so ensuring your site has a mobile-friendly interface is as important as basting the turkey.
